Uniform & Equipment

At Manor Community Academy we are proud of our school and this is reflected in our uniform.

We believe that compulsory uniform ensures that students (and their parents) do not feel under pressure to compete regarding appearance. At Manor all of the students conform to our uniform code and students’ individuality is expressed through their work and not through their appearance.

Full uniform is also essential during PE lessons where the wearing of replica football tops and designer kit is not allowed.

Jewellery is not permitted at Manor and body piercing is forbidden. Jewellery will be confiscated and placed in a secure place until parents can collect it. Body piercing (e.g. facial studs, tongue studs) is not allowed and students will be expected to remove any item of this type of jewellery. In certain circumstances, students who refuse to comply with this request will be sent home.

Students are not allowed extreme hairstyles; this includes shaved styles, patterns shaved into the hair, Mohican style cuts and extreme hair colours. Extreme hair colours are any bright colours which cannot be considered to be a natural hair colour.

With the exception of watches, students are discouraged from bringing valuables onto the premises and the Academy will not be held responsible when valuable possessions are stolen or lost unless they have been given to a member of staff for safe keeping. Confiscated items will be kept in a secure place until they have been returned to parents.

The Academy appreciates that many children routinely carry mobile phones and provided that they are not being used during the normal school day, and are kept in bags, children are permitted to have them. Mobile phones cannot be carried around in a visible manner. They may be useful in certain circumstances e.g. after extra-curricular activities, transport problems etc. Students who disturb lessons by using phones or who use them anywhere else on the premises will have their phones confiscated.

Noticeable make-up is not allowed. Any make-up must be discreet. The decision as what qualifies as discreet rests with the Principal and Executive Principal of the Academy.
